Turning Reflection Into Transformation With A Mentor

core connections Apr 24, 2019

With having coaches and mentors my entire life, I knew this was something that I wanted to talk about. No matter where you are in life, a mentor or coach can play a huge role in helping you to reflect and transform. The questions that I now ask myself and my children have helped to enhance my outlook on life. As you start on this path of personal growth, you start to recognize that there’s this depth to life that I want to share with each and every one of you!

Having a mentor or coach in your corner could really help you with goal setting. I love setting and accomplishing baby goals! Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s incredible to have these big life goals, but breaking down that dream into baby goals will help it become more attainable for you.

By working the big dream backward, you start to set up your baby goals in a SMART way.

S = SPECIFIC: Create clear, concise goals

M = MEASURABLE: The ability to track your progress

A = ATTAINABLE: Those baby goals!!

R = RELEVANT: Set goals that are relevant to your overall dream

T = TIME: Goal has a desired finish time

I want you to think of a baby goal that you could set for yourself right now, today, that will help to bring you closer to your overall dream.

I don’t like to look at failure as such an extremist. I believe that failure is a part of everyone’s journey where you look back to learn from the baby goals that you set that aren’t properly leading you to your overall dream. It’s about changing your relationship with the word ‘failure’ into this idea of going through learning lessons along the way. You find ways that don’t work in order to make things work more efficiently + effectively.

What is success? In all honesty, success is whatever the heck you want it to be. It has to do with this journey that we are all on. We all have, are and will be successful at some degree, but your degree of success doesn’t define you, it’s what you do with that degree of success that will move you forward.

Success isn’t about perfection and that can sometimes get in our own way of our own progress. Think about your values and what you want in life to help you to determine what success means to you.

I highly recommend listening to the video below on Carol Dweck’s research that’s focused on why people succeed and how to foster success. Her message and research really helped me to understand the growth mindset specifically for kids.

I think this way thinking as an adult is beyond powerful because we tend to get set in our ways… so being able to put ourselves in a different perspective can help us to think bigger.
