Why Gripping Your Glutes Is Weakening Your Core

I have a couple of questions for you…

  • Do you ever get nagging low back pain as you go to pick something up off the ground?
  • How about when doing the dishes you notice that your bum is clenched really tight?

I had a feeling these questions might resonate with you, friend!

>>Throughout my almost 20 years in the fitness industry, I have found that gripping your glutes is the cause of so much dysfunction in the body!<<

Now it's time for you to ask me a question: How do you know if you are gripping your glutes? *I thought you'd never ask!*

A major sign to know if you're a glute gripper is if you tuck your bum.

I know, I know that's how you were taught in the past...but that old-school way of training might be:

  • What's causing your low back pain
  • The reason that you have a weak pelvic floor
  • Why you can't activate your core

This doesn't mean that shouldn't work your glutes because pelvic support is all about the booty! What you need to do is to start looking at what's going on with your hamstrings.

Hamstrings seem to get neglected because people are focused on strengthening the glutes, but with my unique training methods it's all about finding balance in the body.

Let me introduce you to a place that I like to call the Butt Smile. This is the spot underneath your glutes that gets lifted and supported with the help of the hamstrings.

That being said, you also don't want to overcompensate in your hamstrings so much so that you cause a major anterior tilt of the pelvis...Hello back pain!

>>By bringing awareness to how you're holding your body, you are able to understand what shifts need to take place to find balance.<<

Small changes lead to big results. You can't expect your body to do a 180° overnight if it's been used to a certain way of holding itself for years.

So don't be hard on yourself. Notice what habits your body has and be mindful of them throughout your day as you work to shift them.

Speaking of changing habits…I believe life is too short to live with physical limitations.

  • Are you tired of peeing your pants when you go for a run?
  • Is your diastasis recti preventing you from getting on the ground to play with your kids?
  • Do you lose confidence in your body when you go into a workout knowing it doesn't feel the same as it did before delivered babies?
  • Have you ever not jumped on the trampoline in fear of your organs falling out?
  • Are you ready to reclaim your health so you can feel empowered again?
