How to Calm Your Nervous System + Trust Your Intuition with Shari Ingleton
As women, so many of us spend our days constantly “doing.”
Checking boxes. Managing schedules. Taking care of everyone else. Working. Parenting. Building businesses. Trying to stay healthy. Trying to stay caught up.
But what happens when we become so busy doing that we completely disconnect from ourselves?
In this powerful episode of the Core Connections Podcast, I sat down with my dear friend Shari Ingleton of Gold Soul Therapy to talk about nervous system healing, intuition, emotional wellness, and the deep connection between mind, body, heart, and soul.
This conversation was such a beautiful reminder that healing doesn’t always come from pushing harder. Often, it comes from slowing down enough to truly listen.
The 5 Bodies of Healing
One of the most powerful concepts Shari shares is the idea of the “five bodies”:
-
Physical
-
Mental
-
Emotional
-
Energetic
-
Spiritual
When one of these areas becomes depleted or out of balance, it affects everything else.
This aligns so deeply with the work I teach through movement, fascia, breathwork, and nervous system support inside programs like Core Rehab and my Pilates-based movement approach.
Your body is constantly communicating with you.
The problem is that most of us have been conditioned to override those signals.
Instead of asking:
“How do I actually feel today?”
We push through exhaustion.
We ignore stress.
We disconnect from our emotions.
We stay stuck in constant “go mode.”
Over time, this creates nervous system overload, tension, anxiety, burnout, and often physical symptoms within the body.
Why Presence Is So Important for Nervous System Healing
One of the biggest themes in this conversation was learning how to become more present.
Not perfect.
Not doing more.
Not checking every box.
Just more present.
Shari explained that intuition often begins as a whisper.
But in today’s world, we’re constantly distracted:
-
Phones
-
Social media
-
Noise
-
To-do lists
-
Stress
-
Notifications
-
Pressure to “do it all”
When we never slow down, we lose connection to our intuition and our body’s signals.
This is why practices like:
-
Walking outside
-
Breathwork
-
Gentle movement
-
Pilates
-
Journaling
-
Meditation
-
Quiet time
-
Nervous system regulation
can feel so transformative.
They bring us back into the present moment.
Your Body Is Always Giving You Information
One thing I loved in this conversation was how beautifully Shari explained that emotions are simply “energy in motion.”
Our emotions are not meant to stay trapped in the body.
When we suppress stress, overwhelm, grief, frustration, or anxiety for years, the body eventually starts speaking louder.
Sometimes that shows up as:
-
Chronic tension
-
Pain
-
Fatigue
-
Anxiety
-
Burnout
-
Hormonal dysregulation
-
Nervous system dysregulation
-
Pelvic floor tension
-
Digestive issues
This is one reason I’m so passionate about fascia-focused movement and nervous system-friendly exercise.
The body remembers everything.
This is also why I teach women to stop forcing movement and instead focus on nourishing movement that supports the nervous system rather than overwhelming it.

Sometimes Rest Is the Most Productive Thing You Can Do
One of my favorite moments in this episode was when Shari talked about how, when we feel overwhelmed, the answer is not always to push harder.
Sometimes the best thing we can do is:
-
Take a walk
-
Go outside
-
Rest
-
Take a nap
-
Breathe
-
Pause
Because when we shift our nervous system state, we often become far more productive afterward.
I know so many women struggle with this.
We’ve been taught that productivity equals worth.
But the truth is:
A regulated nervous system helps us think more clearly, move more efficiently, parent more intentionally, and show up more fully in every area of life.
A Powerful Reminder About What Truly Matters
Toward the end of the episode, Shari shared the emotional story of her son’s traumatic brain injury and how it completely changed her perspective on life.
It was such a powerful reminder that life can change in an instant.
And because of that:
-
Presence matters
-
Connection matters
-
Health matters
-
Relationships matter
-
How we feel each day matters
So many women are waiting for someday to slow down, heal, or reconnect with themselves.
But your nervous system, your emotional health, and your well-being matter now.
