Can Sound Frequencies Support Your Health? Exploring the Science Behind Frequency Therapy

If you've ever noticed how peaceful you feel while listening to ocean waves, birds singing, or calming music, you've already experienced the power of sound.

The sounds we surround ourselves can have great influence on how we feel.

Emerging research suggests they may also influence our nervous system, stress levels, sleep quality, and even how our bodies recover.

In this episode of the Core Connections Podcast, I sat down with John Bamber of WavWatch to explore the fascinating world of sound frequencies and why this area of wellness is receiving more attention than ever before.

Why Sound Matters More Than Most People Realize

We often think about nutrition, movement, sleep, hydration, and stress management as the foundations of health.

But one area that's often overlooked is what we're constantly hearing.

Our bodies are continuously exposed to sound—from traffic, phones, television, notifications, conversations, music, and nature.

While some sounds create stress, others help calm the body and support nervous system regulation.

For years, I've personally preferred using calming music during my Pilates practice because I've found it helps me become more present, breathe better, and connect with my body in a completely different way than loud, high-energy music.

What Is Frequency Therapy?

Frequency therapy uses specific sound frequencies designed to support the body's natural processes.

The idea isn't new.

Researchers have studied sound and vibration for decades, and practitioners have explored how frequencies may influence the body through various approaches.

John's mother Linda Bamber began working with frequency technology more than twenty years ago after using equipment that measured the body's responses through frequencies. This eventually led to the development of WavWatch, a wearable device designed to deliver curated sound frequency programs throughout the day.

The Nervous System Connection

One of the most fascinating parts of our conversation centered around the nervous system.

John discussed research suggesting our nervous system may communicate through more than electrical impulses alone.

Studies have explored whether sound waves also play a role in how information travels throughout the body.

As someone who works extensively with:

  • fascia

  • deep core function

  • pelvic floor health

  • breathing mechanics

  • nervous system regulation

I find this incredibly interesting.

We already know the nervous system influences nearly every aspect of health—from pain and digestion to movement quality and recovery.

Anything that helps regulate the nervous system deserves more research and attention.

Your Internal Dialogue Is Also a Form of Sound

One of my favorite parts of the conversation had nothing to do with technology.

It had to do with the words we speak to ourselves.

I've worked with thousands of women over the past two decades.

Many are eating well.

They're exercising.

They're taking supplements.

They're checking every health box they can think of.

Yet they still don't feel well.

One missing piece is often the conversation happening inside their own minds.

If you're constantly telling yourself:

  • "My body is broken."

  • "I'll never get better."

  • "I'm failing."

your nervous system hears that message.

Instead, try asking:

  • What if my body is communicating with me?

  • What if I simply need more support?

  • What small step can I take today?

That shift alone can dramatically change how you experience your health journey.

Nature Is Full of Healing Frequencies

Have you ever wondered why spending time outside feels so restorative?

Birdsong.

Running water.

Wind through the trees.

These natural sounds help calm our nervous system in ways we're only beginning to understand.

This is one reason I encourage clients to spend more time outside, breathe deeply, move intentionally, and reduce unnecessary noise whenever possible.

Sometimes healing starts with creating more space for your body to relax.

What About Sleep?

Sleep was another fascinating topic we discussed.

John shared how WavWatch includes programs designed around circadian rhythms and traditional understandings of the body's natural daily cycles.

The goal is to support deeper, more restorative sleep by aligning sound frequencies with different phases of the night.

As someone who teaches that sleep is one of the foundational pillars of health, I found this especially interesting.

Quality sleep influences:

  • hormone balance

  • recovery

  • immune function

  • energy

  • metabolism

  • brain health

  • longevity

My Personal Experience

I don't recommend products lightly.

In fact, I say "no" far more often than I say "yes."

Before sharing WavWatch with my community, I wanted to experience it myself.

One of my first experiences came while recovering from a lingering cough that kept me awake every night.

After trying the cough setting, I was finally able to sleep lying flat instead of propped up on the couch.

When I removed the device the following night, my coughing returned almost immediately.

Putting the WavWatch back on calm things down again!

Frequency Therapy Shouldn't Replace the Foundations

One point John and I completely agreed on:

No wearable replaces healthy habits.

Movement.

Nutritious food.

Stress management.

Quality sleep.

Time outside.

Healthy relationships.

A positive mindset.

These remain the foundation.

Tools like sound frequency therapy may simply help support the body while you're doing the deeper work.

I view it the same way I view Pilates, breathwork, sauna therapy, or targeted supplementation.

They're all tools—not magic solutions.

Final Thoughts

Modern life exposes us to more stress, more noise, and more stimulation than ever before.

Perhaps one of the simplest things we can do is become more intentional about what we allow into our environment.

The music we listen to.

The conversations we have.

The thoughts we repeat.

The sounds surrounding us.

They all matter.

While research into frequency therapy continues to grow, it's an exciting area of wellness that reminds us our bodies are wonderfully complex—and that healing often involves far more than we once believed.
